One of the losses that hit me hard this year was the passing of Jill Sobule. She had so much more life ahead of her than she got. I was reading the piece about her in the NYT "The Lives They Lived" today, and learned a few things. I was reminded of one of these when I read your year-end letter. Jill lived a lot of her life on the road, staying for days or weeks with friends. According to the NYT, "More than one friend noted that she had fallen asleep doing the crossword puzzle with a fountain pen and ruined the sheets on the guest bed."
Thank you, empress T. For this. For YOUR being and doing in this godforsaken year.
You know I would quickly be on a first name basis with your mail carrier if I knew your mailing address. (That isn't meant to sound stalky and wack, and I think you know me well enough to know it's not.)
I know you're peppered with notes on paper, poems on stationery, and cards galore from the greatest of greats. I salute and cherish them.
So, from my analog self (who has had a landline since 2000, though never on a Japanese phone) to you...
Happy {everything that's supposed to and could be happy}, thank you, high five, hat tip, you've got this, you did that, and just because.
Here's to 2026 and all the ass kicking you'll do, and empower us to do.
4b!!!!!
Gworllllll
Meeting you this year a real gift - 🩷
So much hope, quirk, wit, wisdom & beauty here. Beautifully stated. Thank you, darling Talia. ✌🏼❤️✏️
Thank you, as always, for your lovely writing!
